Interview with Eliza Knight
I had to break out my Ren dress in order to catch up with Eliza Knight, the author of sizzling historical romance and time travel erotic romance. At last, I was able to get her away from the jousting long enough to answer a few questions. I discovered that when she's not chasing after her little children, she is writing, reading, researching, and living with her own knight in shining armor. Eliza operates a blog site, History Undressed, where she discusses the wildly fascinating yet not popularly known facts of history.
Interview
Sally: “When did you first start writing romance?”
Eliza: “When I was in high-school I toyed with short romantic stories that I hid in my closet. In the public eye, I was more journalistic, working for my high school newspaper and even starting a major in journalism at the University of Maryland (which I switched several times before deciding on a B.S. in Family Studies, emphasizing my classes on, what else? Couple relationships!) Those stories still remain buried to this day, but my love of romance writing is alive! I started seriously writing romance as a career about three years ago and haven't taken a break since.”
Sally: “What do you like the most about the romance genre?”
Eliza: “There is just something so completely fascinating to me about relationships, falling in love, working through conflicts and staying in love. When I'm reading it, and when I'm writing it, it's like I am falling in love myself--it's a wonderful feeling that I like to happen over and over again. A rush, if you will, that keeps me grinning like a besotted lover.”
Sally: “Who had the greatest influence on your writing?”
Eliza: “The very first romance novel I ever read was The Bride, by Julie Garwood, and from there I picked up any I could find. I'm also a huge fan of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, and Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, so I suppose you could say all three writers helped me fall in love with the genre, and feel the need to create my own characters and stories.”
Sally: “Your latest release Warrior in a Box is a time travel erotic romance and is published by The Wild Rose Press. This book is part of a series. Can you tell us about the book and the series?”
Eliza: “The series is titled,
The Highland Jewel, all three of the short erotic romances are centered around a Celtic brooch that, when caressed by a character, takes them either into the future or to the past to be with their true love. The first story,
Warrior in a Box, brings a Highlander to the future. Here's a blurb:
Blurb
Lainie Shaw, travel writer, work-a-holic, has no time for men. Even if she did, no man could match up to the one in her imagination. A man who makes her blood heat, her body weep and her heart clench with love. Instead, she is almost content drooling over sexy paintings of Highland warriors while working in Inverness, Scotland. An unexpected purchase in the way of an antique box delivers the man of her dreams right at Lainie's feet. Her wildest fantasies are realized when the Highlander shows her up close and personal what he doesn't wear under his kilt. Not only do they click physically, but emotionally, Lainie finds herself falling hard and fast for this sensual, sweep her off her feet, man from the past.
The second story, Lady in a Box, brings our heroine, Natalie, to the past to meet with Ian, who happens to be Donell's twin from the first story. Lady in a Box releases February 6, 2009. The third story, Love in a Box, (release date TBA) brings the son of Donell and Lainie (from the first story) Colin, to the past to meet with his true love, Sera.”
Sally: “That sounds like a very exciting and unique premise for a series. Is your love affair with writing mostly time travel or do you write in other genres?
Eliza: “Yes, I do. I love writing historicals. I have another series titled, Men of the Sea. These are Regency romance novellas about Royal Navy captains, also being published with The Wild Rose Press. The first one, Her Captain Returns, released January 28, 2009. You can visit my website to read the blurbs and excerpts. I also have a few medieval romance novels currently searching for a home. “
Sally: “I can see your love for history carries over in other endeavors. I recently discovered you’re the author of the blog, History Undressed. What inspired you to start this blog?”
Eliza: “I have always been a huge fan of history. I love reading it, watching it, going to museums, whatever I can get my ears/eyes/hands on. The idea for the blog actually came about when I was doing research for what type of underwear my characters would wear in the time period I was writing. I couldn't find a straight answer anywhere, if at all. I thought to myself, wouldn't it be nice if there was somewhere writers of history could go for a quick overview of information that isn't widely known, all in one spot? Hence, History Undressed was born the following week, and has been quite popular among writers and history lovers alike.”
Sally: “ Thank you, Eliza for spending time with Romance Examiner and congratulations on such a successful blog. I wish you much success with your series.”
