As we head into this work week, I wanted to step back and try to inspire many of my readers. It's a time when mid-summer hits, and questions about the next semester start to sink in.
I previously mentioned Albert Einstein starting out as a part-time faculty member, and how today his success seems to be the ultimate goal for many faculty and students. He was able to transfer his thoughts through time, and is still looked at as a "genius" for many of his theories.
Today, I want to help inspire some of you to go out, and do great things with your education. I turned to Alice Calaprice's book "The New Quotable Einstein." She has gathered some terrific lines, concerning education, from the notable Einstein.
Below are three quote, all given at different times, well cited by Ms. Calaprice, that I think summarizes education for those heading into or already in college.
The aim (of education) must bet the training of independently acting and thinking individuals who, however, see in the service to the community their highest life achievement."
The school should always have as its aim that the young person leave it as a harmonious personality, not as a specialist."
Otherwise, he - with his specialized knowledge - more closely resembles a well-trained dog than a harmoniously developed person."
I want to encourage my readers to get out there, and make use of the great things any college can offer. To those educators, think about what Einstein has said, and let's try to help future generations get excited about their education. It's time that we develop strong, educated people. Not just specialists.
