Tonight at 8m ET (NBC) catch the much anticipated final game of the NHL season as the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburg Penguins battle for the Stanley Cup.
"It's the greatest thing that an athlete can ask for, having this opportunity. … It's like I said, to play the greatest game that you've been able to play in your career, to be able to become Stanley Cup champion," states Wings' Kris Draper. Draper is a four time winner of the Cup, going for his fifth.
So, who's favored tonight?
Many are rooting for the "underdog" Penguins; the thought being that a veritable changing of the guard would be beneficial for the NHL, to keep things fresh.
Detroit is favored as having more depth. The Wings lead the series, skill-wise, mainly under the tutelage of Chris Osgood. Not to mention they'll be skating on their home turf, which is always advantageous. They've outscored the Penguins 11-2 on home ice throughout the Final .... and out-shot them 213-159.
But, the younger and wholly tenacious Penguins are coming off of a Game 6 win. Can that momentum propel them to victory? They haven't yet lost a Game 7.
Tune in tonight to see sports history in the making.
