Earlier this week, Jon and Kate, from the TLC reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8, announced that yes, they are indeed getting a divorce.

To many viewers, this decision didn’t come as a surprise.

Let’s face it – reality show couples are destined to doom. Take Nick and Jessica for example. Or the Hogan family and Carmen Electra and what’s his name. (Hmmm… can we predict what’s to come of Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt???)

For the past couple of months, viewers, and anybody who doesn’t live under a rock, have unfortunately watched Jon and Kate throw around infidelity accusations while their eight children can only wonder, “who’s on call next?”

That’s because Jon and Kate’s “living arrangements” compare to the likes of a nurse’s schedule -- day shift versus night shift. Instead of carting the kids back and forth between each parent’s place of residence, the Gosselin kids stay put and the parents go back and forth.

Sounds pretty stable right?

Chicago Marriage Examiner’s Marina Mayer talks with Bill Brenner, a Chicago divorce attorney, who sheds some light on bird-nesting, the pros and cons for both children and parents and what the courts have to say about it.

Stay tuned for a six-article installment that breaks down the art of bird-nesting.
