Somehow I managed to miss "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" when it came out in 2008. Luckily I caught up with it last week on Netflix, and am I glad I did. Not only is it a fun, fast-paced, and original romantic comedy with terrific acting and zero stereotypes, but it takes place in a gorgeous setting: Oahu's Turtle Bay Resort. Watching the movie gave me a tremendous desire to pack a bag, hop on a plane, and make for Oahu's north shore. Well...someday soon, perhaps.

Anway, Turtle Bay is nestled on a rocky outcrop at the island's serene northernmost point, between two beautiful bays, with nearly five miles of beautiful beachfront just waiting for honeymooning couples and others to explore. One of the bays is azure-covered, calm, and perfect for snorkeling. The other has big enough ways for surfing (internationally-acclaimed surfing destination Waimea Beach is nearby). A true luxury resort, Turtle Bay offers a variety of price points in accommodations ranging from guest rooms, to suites, beach cottages, and villas.

The grounds of Turtle Bay feature two lushly landscaped pools, Fazio- and Palmer- designed championship golf courses, tennis courts, horseback riding, hiking and mountain bike trails, a surfing school, world-class dining and shopping. One of the island's biggest draws, the Polynesian Cultural Center, is nearby, and Honolulu is less than an hour away.
Turtle Bay has a "North Shore Romance Package" that includes a daily breakfast buffet and a convertible rental car for $502 per night (2-night minimum). But if you can do without a convertible, check out the non-refundable, pre-paid "Exclusives" rates starting at $148 per night. That's only until December 21, but I imagine that, after the Holidays, similar rates will be available.
