The City of San Jose will celebrate its 19th community garden on Friday, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. August 14, 2009 with a ribbon cutting ceremony and festivities at Guadalupe River Park and Gardens. The one-acre garden at the corner of Walnut and Asbury streets has been been thriving for several months and now visitors can see the garden in action.
The formal program begins at 3:00 p.m. and the public is invited to stay and watch cooking demonstrations, take a tour and learn gardening tips, listen to music, and watch educational presentations. There will also be activities for children, refreshments and free parking.
Phase two of the project which would add another acre for individual plots is waiting for federal stimulous money. With the renewed interest in gardening the waiting list for the plots has grown but if you're interested, submit your name to the list by contacting Manny Perez, San Jose Community Garden Coordinator at Manny.Perez @sanjoseca.gov or call 408-793-5533.
