Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel

Zombieland could also be called Car Land. It's a road movie, but that's not all. The film begins after a virus has infected the world's population, turning some into zombies and leaving a few regular folk to fend for themselves against the flesh-eaters pursuing them at every turn. Zombieland is essentially a planet-sized ghost town where people were literally plucked from their lives in the middle of mundane tasks, and cars are strewn everywhere. Many of them are wrecked and beyond repair, but some are in fine working order, and if you can find one that a zombie isn't living in, it is yours for the taking.

Take industrious zombie killer Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), who finds a perfectly pristine yellow, '03 Hummer H2. It does have one tiny defect: the original driver's hands still grip the wheel. And they're severed. But he removes them, paints a Dale Earnhardt  "3" on the driver's door, and it's zombie-ready. As great as it is, for Tallahassee, it took getting used to. His first love was a black, '03 Cadillac Escalade, also emblazoned with a "3", and the two were inseparable. Enter two con artists, Wichita and Little Rock (Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin), and Tallahassee found himself stranded by the side of the road. Thank God for that Hummer.

Aside from the Hummer and the Escalade's roles in chasing down zombies, smashing them to bits with an open car door at 60 mph, and providing storage for loads of weapons, they function as the two vehicles in which a lot of Wizard of Oz style road-trip bonding takes place. But again, for a car lover in a barren, post-apocalyptic, zombie-riddled word, there are all the crazy car chases and bombastic smash-ups you can hope for, and maybe behind a heap of dead zombies is your dream car.
