Halloween is fun for most of us, but for many pets it can be stressful and dangerous. Here are some tips to keep your pets safe and calm:
-If you expect to be opening and closing the door a lot, consider keeping your dog in its kennel or isolated in a room with a closed door while you are giving out candy.
-Keep cats indoors. Many pets, especially black and orange cats and black dogs, can be victims of cruel pranks on Halloween.
-Keep candies, particularly chocolate, away from cats and dogs as they can be harmful if eaten.
-Make sure your pets are wearing their ID in case they get out and get lost. Microchips make a great extra insurance.
-If going out for the night, think about leaving the TV or radio on to block out outside noises that might scare your pet.
-If dressing your pet for Halloween, make sure the costume fits appropriately. Tight costumes could restrict breathing. Loose ones could come loose and get tangled.
-Try not to leave pets where they can chew up or swallow Halloween decorations and ornaments that might be hazardous.
Have a fun and safe Howl-o-ween!
