Some of the best Halloween costumes are those based on famous people. Last year, the beehive and short skirt made up a great Amy Winehouse look alike. This year you may be struggling to figure out what to be, but don't worry -- inspiration is just a subway stop away.
Madame Tussaud was an artist who wanted to immortalize important figures (as well as friends and relatives) in wax. It is not a usual museum because visitors are encouraged to touch and take pictures with the wax figures, which are displayed in interactive exhibits. Snap a pic with Abraham Lincoln, then walk to the next room and say hello to Britney Spears (circa 2005, before the head shaving incident).
Checking out these wax figures will be sure to give you ideas about your own Halloween costume. Where else can you get to close to figures modeled after your favorite celebrities and historical figures? Couples might want to check out Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, and a group of friends should consider taking notes on what the Beatles are wearing. (Check out the picture at right for tips.)
Not only can you get Halloween ideas at the museum, it's also a fun New York nightlife destination when the tourists have all meandered out of Times Square. The museum is located at 234 West 42nd Street, and there are discounted ticket prices for seniors, students, and children. The first ticket is sold at 10 am every day, and the last ticket is sold at 8 pm during the week and 10 pm on Friday and Saturday. Please visit Madame Tussaud's website for more information.
