This is a new series called 'Drink of the week' -- each week, I feature a different alcoholic beverage and give you the recipe, as well as the history behind the drink. Check back every week for your next cocktail creation. Please enjoy in moderation.
It is 25 degrees in New York City with a mix of rain and ice falling from the sky. With such crummy weather outside, it's important to relax with a drink that will warm you up and lift your spirits.
The hot apple pie is extremely soothing and is goes down easily, especially with the delicious whipped cream on top. Its origins are unknown, but since it is made with Tuaca, many think that it was invented in Italy. The liqueur has a citrus and vanilla flavor, which makes it perfect for this drink.
Hot Apple Pie:
+ 6 oz apple cider (You can make your own cider easily by buying packets of mix and then adding them to hot water. It's like making hot chocolate in those little packet mixes.)
+ 1 shot of Tuaca (or 2 shots, or 3 shots... add however much you want depending on your mood!)
+ Garnish with a cinnamon stick for extra flavor (The drink still tastes good if you don't have any cinnamon sticks available.)
+ Top with whipped cream
...serve in an Irish coffee glass or mug.
So tonight after work, relax with a hot apple pie (or two!). It will warm you up and raise your spirits, making you forget about the world outside.
