Creepy haunted house in NYC equals Halloween fun! (Photo from Bloodmanor.com)

One of the best parts about October is the plethora of scary activities leading up to Halloween. From picking out which costume will be the scariest to stocking up on creepy crawly decorations, this month is full of fun. The penultimate October activity has to be going to haunted houses, giving you and your friends a healthy dose of fright. These two are different -- the first is pretty scary, while the second is the scariest thing you may ever experience in your life. Enjoy!

+ Blood Manor Haunted House:
Address: 542 West 27th Street between 10th and 11th. Call 212-290-2825 for more info or visit BloodManor.com
Train: Take the C or E to 23rd St./8th Ave. and walk west.
Days of operation: Blood Manor is open weekends, from Thursday to Sunday. You have two remaining weekends to get there -- the 22nd to the 25th and then the 27th through the 31st (Halloween night -- spooky!). If you're interested in going after Halloween, the house stays open one last weekend, November 6-7.
Hours of operation: 7:30pm through Midnight on Thursdays and Sundays, 7:30pm to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, and 7:30pm to 1am on October 27th through 31st.
Cost: $30 at the door (cash only!), $25 (plus a $3.50 handling charge) for e-tickets over the phone. There is also a "R.I.P. Express Entry E-Ticket" that must be bought in advance for $45 and entitles you to go to the front of the line and avoid the wait.
Please note that the promoters say that Blood Manor is very scary and is not recommended for children under the age of 14.

+ Haunted House:
A very straightforward name for a haunted house that is billed as "NYC's newest, cheapest, and scariest haunted attraction." Here are the details:
Address: The Vortex Theater, 164 11th Avenue between 22nd and 23rd.
Train: C,E to 23rd Street and walk west to 23rd Street and 11th Avenue
Days of operation: Every night (except Mondays) from now until October 31.
Hours of operation: Tuesday through Friday: 7 to 11pm -- Saturday and Sunday: 5 to 11pm
Cost: $14 at the door. $12 general admission in advance if you buy tickets online. Also a $20 VIP option where you skip the line.
Please note that no one under 18 years old will be admitted, and every guest must walk through the haunted house alone. This haunted house is guaranteed to scare you to the core... so please remember this is only for those who can handle a lot of fright.
