Fresh and unexpected. A plum-colored, one-shoulder goddess gown.

We love Cannes for the spectacle.

The budding starlets, the flowing champagne and the incredible stories.

But the thing we like best of all (besides the movies of course) is the fashion.

There was a lot to love this year.

This is the first of two slideshows featuring the Best Dresses of Cannes 2009.

Below, The Eyecatchers. Those gowns and dresses that surprised us or held us raptured.

Join the dialogue. What did you think about Angelina's blush-colored dress? Isabelle Huppert's lace? The trend toward one-shoulder grecian-style gowns?

Sheer, black, one-shoulder - what caught our eye at Cannes.
