Weeeeeeeeee! That was my main thought during my half-hour airboat ride around Lake Jessup. My secondary thought was to wonder how many of you know that you can experience a thrill like this in… Oviedo? With speeds up to 50 mph, more than 15 wild gator sightings, and a variety of bird species (including one that looks like a small flamingo), this half hour was non-stop entertainment and adventure. If you want to extend or amplify the adventure, Black Hammock Adventures also offers hour-long rides and night rides (both by minimum 24-hour reservation).
As fun as it is, the airboat ride alone does not make Black Hammock a daycation destination. This all-in-one entertainment stop also offers a marina and rental boats for fishing trips, a casual restaurant with shockingly delicious food, a couple of bars, and alligator and bird pens for up-close wildlife viewing (my favorite was the meowing macaw).
On the weekends, enjoy the sunset from a lakeside table at the Lazy Gator Bar, then relax and wait for the live entertainment to begin. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, the Lazy Gator Bar features live entertainment. An awesome local rock band, Krazy Ex-Girlfriend, was there the night I visited. (They return to Black Hammock on July 18 if you want to check them out.) Note that the Black Hammock Restaurant also offers live entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings.
