The down economy has left consumers in the driver’s seat when it comes to pricing, with columnist promoting bargaining even at big box stores and sellers touting bargain basement sales. The travel industry has not been immune to the slash in pricing with some companies finding innovative ways to sell their products at a discount.
Lion World Tours, specializing in travel to South Africa, is offering travelers the opportunity to bid on set itineraries. Just like Ebay, consumers can set a maximum bid and then the system will increase in specified increments as needed to keep you in the lead. The first two auctions were held last week and included a three night stay at The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa, one night on The Blue Train, and two nights at Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge with transfers and several meals included. Typically, this package would retail for $7,000 for two people, so the winning bid of $4,200 made someone a very happy traveler.
This week’s packages include a three night stay at the Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa, three nights at Jackalberry Safari Lodge, one night at the Michelangelo Hotel, and ends with a two night stay at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. The itinerary includes transfers, tours, and many meals with a typical retail price of $11,000 for two people. The other auction running this week includes roundtrip airfare from New York or Washington D.C. on South African Airways, four nights at the Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa, two nights at Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge, transfers, tours, and several meals with a retail price of $10,200 for two people. Both of these auctions end on Wednesday, July 15 at 5 p.m. EST.
Full itineraries are available on the auction website to see exactly what the trip includes as well as all bidding information. Check back weekly for updated auctions or contact Lion World Tours or your travel agent for help planning your own trip to South Africa.
