Partying in Delray at Delux

Good morning! I am a little late with today's post and for that I apologize.  There are so many events in this area and I am trying very hard to make sure I cover them all.  If you have an event that I have not written about and you would like to have it covered in this column, please feel free to send me an email with all the details.

On a side note, a special thank you to all of you who have sent me photos of your night out on the town in Palm Beach County.  I have included some of them on the site today.

Be sure to check out yesterday's column (also available on the Examiner's Halloween page) which will give you a variety of Halloween themed things to do this weekend.  And now the events for tonight and this weekend:

A night out in West Palm Beach

Friday, October 10:

Today is the start of Oktoberfest! This yearly event is one of my favorites.  Running from tonight until Sunday (and again next weekend), Oktoberfest offers authentic German food, dancing, bands direct from Germany, games, crafts, a beer tapping ceremony, a parade of flags, carnival rides and so much more for the whole family. And of course-  BEER - lots and lots of beer.  Held on over ten acres at 5111 Lantana Road - Lake Worth, this event is so much fun.  Admission is only $7 this year and kids are free.  Visit www.americangermanclub.org for times and information.

The Jove Theater - 6743 W. Indiantown Road, Jupiter - is presenting "Scary Noises," an evening of improvisation sketches and musical comedy presented by one of South Florida's premiere comedy troupes. The show runs tonight and tomorrow night at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $15.  Visit www.thejove.com for details.

The second and last Friday of each month, from 6-9 p.m., along Northwood Road is the Nights in Northwood Village Art & Wine Promenade.  Enjoy live music, great art and delicious wine between Broadway and North Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach.

Also from 6-9 p.m. tonight Lake Worth is holding their Evening on the Avenue.  Live music, arts & crafts vendors, classic cars, outdoor dining and family fun is offered at Cultural Plaza between Lake and Lucerne Avenues and M Street.

For a relaxing evening visit Les Beans - 410 2nd Avenue North, Lake Worth- for gourmet coffee and upbeat live music. Music starts at 8 p.m. and  goes all night. (photo of a relaxing night at Les Beans to the right, courtesy of the wonderful Luis Aponte of Global Quest http://www.globalquestfund.com/index.php

Vedado Park is holding a Kids' Night Out tonight from 6:30 - 9 p.m.  Monthly field trips in the West Palm Beach and surrounding areas make this fun for the kids and a good chance for parents to get out alone too.  Call 561-804-4990 for information.

The Palm Beach Home Show - 650 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach - runs throughout the weekend presenting the latest in home design and remodeling products and services.  Hours are noon- 8:30 p.m. today, 10 - 8:30 p.m. tomorrow and 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday. Adults $9; children $4

Annie is playing at the Willow Theater - 300 S. Military Trail, Boca Raton.  This musical is a thrill for all ages.  I don't have time details but call 561-470-1903.

Pocahontas is also playing at the Sol Children's Theatre - 3333 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton.  The troupe opens this inspiring play on Friday at 7 p.m. Saturday there are two showings - 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and one on Sunday at 2 p.m.  Call 561-447-8829 for information.

Saturday / Sunday:

I am so excited for Saturday.  The 14th Annual Downtown Delray Art & Craft Festival is on.  Local, regional and national artists display their crafts and the show is just huge and in such a nice location.  I am personally biased because I live in Downtown Delray and am happy to see so many of my friends in this area having the opportunity to show their awesome stuff.  The show runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m - 5 p.m. and admission is free.  The show takes place in Pineapple Grove, Delray Beach - 200 NE 2nd Ave.

As you are heading down to the Art Fair Saturday check out the Delray Beach Green Market.  Shop for organic and locally grown veggies and fruit, taste homemade jams, hummus and more and enjoy the all-natural and handmade wares.  From 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Worthing Place in Delray (off Atlantic Avenue).

Learn to surf this Sunday at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park - 10900 Jack Nicklaus Drive, North Palm Beach.  Ranger Rob Matriscino instructs kids and adults of all ages on the basics of surfing.  Lessons will be on land and in the water. Bring your surfboard if you have one. Reservations are required at 561-624-6950.

Finally, take the kids to Sunday Funday at the Norton Museum of Art - 1451 S. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach.  Children ages 4 - 12 can meet a video game creator and then design their own game character. Visit from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Don't miss out on the fun this weekend!
