Michael Jackson 1958 - 2009

Pop icon Michael Jackson was reportedly buried on Tuesday, July 7 in a private ceremony - without his brain.

Due to neuropathology tests needed to conclude the cause of the King of Pop's untimely death, Jackson's brain was removed from his body, according to Los Angeles coroner's spokesman Craig Harvey.

Apparently, this procedure is common in cases such as this one -where drug overdose might be the cause.

As previously reported, the pop icon died after a cardiac arrest on Thursday, June 25 but the circumstances around his death continue to baffle investigators.

According to the Daily Mirror, sources at the coroner's office revealed Jackson's brain was removed before his body was released to his family two days after his death.

Jackson's family was also given the choice to either wait for three weeks to reclaim his brain or bury the "Thriller" star without it. The family decided to proceed with the funeral.
