Lindsay Lohan to police: 'I didn't steal the jewels but I'll help you find 'em'

Among other recent troubles, does Lindsay Lohan have sticky fingers? British police are currently exploring the possibility of LiLo being a thief after $45,000 worth of jewelery went missing following a photo shoot with the star and British Elle magazine.

Several weeks ago Lohan posed for the fashion mag while in London and after the shoot, the pricey gems went missing and were never returned to the jeweler.

According to HolyMoly.com, the "Mean Girls" actress raised suspicion when she was overly curious about the jewelery throughout the shoot.

"She kept going on about the jewels, asking if she could have them. We all thought she was joking," said an insider to the website.

Editors then tried to contact Lindsay for two weeks but to no avail. Instead the actress returned to the US and hasn't spoken out until now.

According to RadarOnline.com, Lindsay's rep Leslie Sloane-Zelnik responded yesterday (June 16) by saying the star is "happy to co-operate" with the investigation.

Sloane-Zelnik added, "We haven't been contacted yet by anyone. Lindsay hopes they find the missing items."

Lucky for Lohan, Elle doesn't believe the "Herbie The Lovebug" star is responsible for taking the stolen gems despite her previous dealings with fashion house Louis Vuitton.

An Elle representative released a statement saying:

"I can confirm on behalf of Elle magazine that items of jewelery went missing from an Elle photo shoot two weeks ago and the matter is now being investigated by the police.

"Elle has no reason to believe that Lindsay Lohan was in any way responsible and has no further comment to make."

Lohan wasn't so lucky with Louis Vuitton. Reportedly, the luxury brand refuses to deal with the actress anymore after she repeatedly swiped merchandise from photo shoots.

The troubled actress was also caught up in a fur coat "misunderstanding" after allegedly taking home a Russian student's $11,000 mink from a New York City private party last year (08).

Masha Markova -the coat’s rightful owner, claimed Lohan took her mink as she left a private soiree. Markova feared she'd never see the gift from her grandmother again, until she spotted Lohan wearing it in a magazine photo.

Markova's fur was soon returned after she threatened legal action and going public with the story.
