RIP Guy Talk

As we've been telling you, today is the final day of broadcast for WJFK as we know it.

The guy talk station at 106.7 FM Is going the way of the dodo bird and being replaced Monday morning with a CBS-owned sports talk station.

Since the announcement, it has been all about the sentimentality on the Big O & Dukes show, who are not part of the new lineup.  Mike O'Meara's show, however, has been in reruns.  It's been bittersweet to hear the "best of" segments and know we will not hear him live on Monday.

Today is the final day of traditional programming on WJFK.  You can expect even more emotional goodbye-ing on the midday show with Oscar and Chad Dukes.  If you are looking for something Mike O.'s crew you are in luck.

DCRTV.com is reporting that O'Meara did tape a farewell message and it is expected to air three times: 3PM, 5PM and 7PM.  If you are a long-time fan, you won't want to miss it.  O'Meara is expected to be off-air at least until the end of 2009, which is how long his CBS contract runs.  Interestingly, we think that is how long Don Geronimo is under contract, too...  We wonder if there is any hope for the boys to reunite in the future?

In the meantime, it will be your last chance to hear Mike, Robb Spewak, Buzz Burbank, Beth Ann McBride and Joe Ardinger for a while.

As you know by now, we are a Twitter lurker and here is what has been said by the Mike O'Meara team since the Tuesday announcement of the format flip.

From Buzz's Twitter feed:

on the day of the announcement:

These paid vacations ROCK!
5:19 PM Jul 14th from web

and this morning:

One door closes, another opens. We say farewell-for-now, today at 3 Eastern...with repeats at 5, and the end of the show. Again, thank you.
about 1 hour ago from web

From Beth Ann McBride's Twitter feed:

the day before the announcement:

Life Is Full Of Surprises...no?
5:21 PM Jul 13th from web

From the Mike O'Meara Show Twitter feed:

Check Out The Summer Sale At The Store At www.mikeomearashow.com
5:29 PM Jul 13th from web

For all you other Twitter lurkers out there...  Don Geronimo updates frequently.  Check out his feed too for giggles.

If you go to WJFK.com (the current station's website) there is a countdown clock to the switch, video of the announcement and podcasts of some of the final shows.  Click on it quickly if you want to enjoy it.  We suspect everything will be redirected to 1067thefandc.com on Monday (which is currently being redirected to CBS Sports).
