Television personality Ed McMahon has died at 86 years old.

The man best known for being Johnny Carson's sidekick also hosted the grandaddy of the talent shows "Star Search" and was the pitch man for the Publisher's Clearing House and even had an ad in this year's Super Bowl for Cash4Gold.

McMahon was also a veteran who served in the Marines during the 1940s and 1950s and in the Korean War and even achieved the rank of colonel according to TMZ.

McMahon was back in the news recently as he openly talked about his financial and health struggles.  Reportedly, McMahon had several debilitating health conditions at the time of his death.  He passed away from what has been characterized as natural causes at an LA-area hospital.

The Washington Post has a nice slideshow from McMahon's life.

He is survived by his wife Pamela and six children.
