Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Britney Spears has resurrected her career and risen above the infamous 5150 psychiatric hold that everyone imagines was her rock bottom.
Last year, you would have been hard-pressed to find good press on child star turned pop star turned train wreck Britney. But, oh what a difference a year makes.
Happy birthday, Brit Brit. Tuesday, December 2nd is her 27th birthday (that makes us feel old) and it is also the date that Spears' latest album (appropriately titled) Circus comes out.
With the release of her new album there's been a whirlwind of press. First there was the video debut on 20/20. Then the hour-long 'documentary' on MTV this weekend "For the Record." I feel like she was really saying "buy my record" but I digress.
Tina Fey's not the only covergirl this month. Britney first graced the cover of Rolling Stone and now she's on Glamour as well. It's as if someone is trying to erase that image of her shaving her own hair off or something...
Say what you will, Spears is an American institution. She's the original Disney girl (before Miley Cyrus stole the crown)... a pop star graduate of the Mickey Mouse Club. We've watched her grow up before the cameras and now we are all clamoring for the latest shot of her current phase.
The proof will be in the pudding. Is Spears still a pop star? Will her album sell or is America tired of her stories? Are we all hoping she will fail? Who knows. But, by the looks of the PR machine all gassed up and ready to go, she's not likely to fall this time.
Check out a recent European performance of her single "Womanizer" below. Sure, she's stolen a little bit of her act from Madonna, but hasn't she always?
If your jonesing for more Britney, wake up early tomorrow morning and catch her on Good Morning America. If you miss her, I am fairly confident you will be able to catch her about a zillion more times this week.
