More than ten years in the making and heavy-metal hair band Guns N' Roses is finally delivering "Chinese Democracy".
The album is the stuff of legends... Axl Rose has been insisting he's been working on the band's sixth studio album since the mid-90s. Every original member has vanished from the line-up over the years except for the braid-laden lead singer. Hours have been spent in the studio and millions of dollars invested in the rumored project.
Most recently, "Democracy" was slated for a March 2007 release date by label Interscope. When that fell through, fans collectively groaned and soft drink manufacturer Dr. Pepper said they would send a can of their soda to everyone in America (excluding two of the original members of the band) if the album arrived in calendar year 2008.
It was beginning to look like there would be actual democracy in China before "Chinese Democracy" would be released.
Well, we'll all be quenching our thirst on Dr. Peppers soon enough.
After a June 2008 leak of nine purported tracks online, Best Buy snagged the rights to "Chinese Democracy" and will be the album's exclusive retailer. With that, they promised a release by year's end and they are delivering. The album is due to be released this Sunday at stores nationwide.
To whet your appetite, GN'R is streaming the new album on their MySpace page. You can hear the whole kit and caboodle before plunking down the cash. That's economic relief. That's also confidence in your product.
Speaking of economic relief, Dr. Pepper is making good on that promise. Here's how you can get your free soda: On Sunday (November 23) go to www.drpepper.com and register for your coupon for a free 20 oz. Dr. Pepper.
By the way, we like the new album. We prefer "Welcome to the Jungle" but we enjoy this new stuff. It's nice to hear Axl's voice on "Better" (track #3).
