My personal new favorite:  CBS' "The Mentalist"

It's sweeps.

Did you know?

Could you even tell?

We've already made it to November!

Fall 2008 has certainly had its fair share of distractions...  their names were Barack Obama, John McCain, Sarah Palin and Tina Fey.  (Sorry, Joe Biden, you didn't distract me.)  Perhaps thats why we never really got to see much of the new television season.

What we did see, didn't deliver quite frankly.  The show I was most looking forward to -- "Kath & Kim" -- is already off of my DVR schedule... doomed unlikely to return.

USA Today has an interesting article about the lack of delivery in the fall line-ups.  They say the only networks that can claim modest successes are Fox for "Fringe" and CBS for "The Mentalist."  Personally, I really enjoy "The Mentalist."  It's a bit like a serious version of those USA shows I love "Monk" and "Psych."  But, I decided I didn't have time to watch "Fringe" too.

Apparently I am not alone.  The J.J. Abrams-produced series has already undergone a makeover, tweaking the core mystery.  The seasoned TV vet Abrams (think "Lost" and "Alias") has been earnestly trying to strike the magic balance for the new Fox show.

NBC has already started messing with their schedule, shuffling "Life" and "Lipstick Jungle" around.  And now there's word that the Peacock is revamping fall 2008 entry "Knight Rider" so that it more closely resembles the format of the 80s hit.  Does that mean we have to see David Hasselhoff again?

Maybe once we get through our holiday hangover, television life will get back on track.  After all, what used to be new season excitement has been moved to mid-season with new offerings from the likes of "24", "Lost" and the Obama family favorite "American Idol" showing up after the new year.

What are you watching?
