MSNBC's most polarizing star will be parked on the cable newser for a while.
Keith Olbermann has signed a deal which will keep him and his show "Countdown" on the air through 2012. Olbermann will also continue to co-host the studio show tied to NBC's Sunday Night Football.
The new deal gives the former SportsCenter star $7.5 million a year, reportedly.
Clearly we are all in the wrong line of work. Unless you make $7.5 million a year for pontificating, of course.
MSNBC renewed Olbermann's deal after he received his best ratings month ever in October -- largely catapulted by his coverage of the Obama-McCain election. Olbermann is unapologetically liberal and the Bush presidency and McCain campaign frequently drew criticism from the host.
Given his leanings, the ladies on the View asked Olbermann what he was going to do with an Obama presidency. His response? "We're switching to all Mariah Carey as of tonight." (By the way, when he was there Olbermann also enraged the ladies when he told them he did not vote. See the exchange here.)
Olbermann solidified his role in pop culture when he was brilliantly portrayed by SNL host Ben Affleck. The same episode featured Arizona Senator and then-Presidential-hopeful John McCain. There was no playful interaction between the two, but Affleck certainly hit the nail on the proverbial head in his mimicking.
Olbermann's reaction to the passage of Proposition 8 in California has become a bit of a viral video hit. You can see the clip on YouTube here.
