The crew that revived the nearly extinct zipcode '90210' are thinking about bringing back its original spin-off.
The CW and CBS productions are apparently chatting about bringing back the campy 90s sudser "Melrose Place."
The discussions have been rumored ever since "90210" successfully relaunched this television season. Part of its magic has been weaving old-school characters into the new storylines (Kelly and Brenda are back and that gets me to watch).
"Melrose Place" has always been viewed as the grown up version of "90210" and in fact started after Grant Show's character Jake (a bad-boy blue collar biker) wooed "90210" princess Kelly Taylor (aka Jennie Garth) for a couple of episodes on the high-school-based soap. The series was set in a West Hollywood apartment complex.
CBS' Paramount Network Television would be the studio producing and partnering with the CW if the show is to launch. That's because they purchased Aaron Spelling's television catalog.
Following the "90210" formula, which stars will make their comeback? Of course, we'd all love to see Heather Locklear reprise her role as Amanda Woodward Blake Parezi McBride Burns or Andrew Shue as Billy. But, I'm pulling for the darkhorse... extract Marcia Cross from "Desparate Housewives" so I can see if crazy Dr. Kimberly Shaw Mancini's hair ever grew back in. Remember that coo-coo moment? Stellar.
If she does come back, will Heather Locklear ever be anything other than a "special guest star"?
The show -- which would likely hit the airwaves in the 2009-2010 television season -- is still in its very early stages of development. Very early.
To quote Zap2It: "So far, there's no plot, script or word about original series guest stars." But, a girl can still dream... and the rumors are out there.
