August is National Inventors’ Month and what better way to celebrate than to get the kids working on some right-brain activity. In Obama’s radio address yesterday, he said, “The spirit of innovation is key to the future.” And, how do we get the future, aka our children, to start thinking about innovation? One step is to get their creative gears turning with some fantastic, creative activity kits. And, we all know that our children are more likely to participate in an activity if we, their parents and grandparents, share in the project. So, roll up your sleeves and dig into some fun right-brain toys.

Here are just a few toys and activity kits that will get their gears going:

Inventor's Kit by Rokenbok

Very well-made kit with so much creative play it will keep their interest for years.

LEGO Inventor Set: Motion Madness by LEGO

Age: 7-99 but I think that if you are over 99 years old they may let you play with it.
243 pieces and comes with an Idea Book with instructions for 6 creations and inspiration for several other projects. Talk about a toy that will be played with for years!

Advanced 320 - Creative Electronics Kit by Shinet Corp

Experiment with electricity, audio effects and light. Simply snap the circuit board onto the diagram and affix the parts onto the board as directed. Advanced kit offers 320 projects like an amplified radio, alarm, musical doorbell, metronome and more.
* My brother gave my youngest son this kit for Christmas a few years back. It was, and still is, one of his most played with toys. It’s never the same toy twice.

Robotix 99102 Robot Inventor's Workshop Kit

Kit allows kids an opportunity to realize the importance of Math, Science and Engineering as well as having a great deal of fun BOTH Individually or in a Team or Group environment.
The Robot Inventor's Workshop Kit includes Six Challenges/Curriculums: Create Your Own Robotic Arm, End Effectors in Action, Build a Pulley Power Hoist, Build a Lunar Crawler, The Robot Zoo, and Robot Inventions.
* Great for classrooms for several curriculums.

Erector Multi Model Construction Set

Builds fifteen different models and includes a tool and instruction booklet. Comes with a new system of flexible cable to allow movements and create attractive models.
* My brother played with his set for many, many years and just passed it down to my boys. What a perfect gift for grandparents to give!
