If you are planning to buy a Mac laptop, the best advice right now is don't. There's a widespread rumor that Apple is likely to unveil a new laptop next week that retails for less than $1,000.
Given the fact that Apple has been notoriously expensive (the MacBook Pro starts at just under $2,000, while the older MacBook hovers just about $1,000 before you start to add such essentials as software and memory), the promise of a new Mac laptop with a price that competes with PCs is truly something to hold your breath for.
But you need not hold your breath for too long. Apple will break the news Tuesday with a demonstration at its Cupertino, Calif. headquarters.
That being said, it may not be an inexpensive laptop after all. While all reports point in that direction, it's worth noting that Apple does this on a semi-regular basis. In fact, the company banks on rumors as a means of drumming up buzz for whatever it plans to announce.
For the real story, you'll have to wait until Tuesday. But in the meantime, try not to buy a Mac laptop -- you could save $1,000.
