The 5-year-Shaniya Davis’s funeral service was held yesterday, drawing hundreds of strangers, mourning the loss of a beautiful innocent little girl, who did not deserve her fate.
Mario McNeill has been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree rape of a child. Authorities report that Shaniya was strangled to death. Her body was found on Monday mixed in with deer carcass in bags and overlooked at first.
Antoinette Davis is charged with trafficking her daughter, child abuse and prostitution. Shaniya’s father, Bradley Lockhart told Oprah last week that Davis had trafficked the child to pay off a drug debt.
Today on CBS, the 5-year-old girl’s aunt, Carey Lockhart-Davis shared her agony, pain and her frustration with a justice system that seems to care more about providing a better quality of life for murderers than most hard working Americans. She tells CBS/ The Early Show Today;
"We have a lot of people … [who have] lost their jobs, who don't have health care, even children that are in homes don't get three square meals a day. But this man sits with guards protecting him, he's receiving free medical, free meals," Carey Lockhart-Davis said on CBS' "The Early Show" Monday.
During Sundays service, a clearly distressed aunt, who helped raise Shaniya with the girl’s father, said the experience has been "overwhelming."
