Experts say the diet obsessed society leads hopeful dieters to hold unrealistic expectations of what weight loss will do for them, bringing dissatisfaction when their goals are met.

Researchers reveal many formerly overweight individuals still "feel fat," despite what the scale says. Though their body has changed, their body image has not. Body image experts claim it’s not uncommon for people, particularly women, who have lost a great deal of weight to be disappointed upon discovering that though the weight is gone, they still aren’t perfect.

Some losers live in fear of gaining back the weight, and are driven to feelings of depression. According to an article published by the New York Times, bariatric surgery patients appear to be at higher risk for killing themselves.
