Comedian Katt Williams (The Pimp Chronicles: Pt. 1), who hosted the first 1st annual BET Hip Hop Awards Show at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre in 2006, was arrested early Monday, Nov. 9, and accused of breaking into a home in Coweta County, Ga. According to the police report, about $3,500 in jewelry and collectable coins were stolen, which led to this highly memorable response from Williams’ attorney, William Briggs, as reported by CNN: "Mr. Williams wears more than that in jewelry on his person."
A solid rebuttal, no doubt. But a closer look at Mr. Williams’ filmography reveals that perhaps his most serious offense to date is subjecting moviegoers to an array of films that range from the mildly bad to the seriously awful. Here, then, we present a sampling of key films from Katt Williams’ career:
Friday After Next (2002)
IMDB user rating: 5.2 (out of 10)
Tomatometer score: 25 (out of 100)
Katt Williams character name: Money Mike
Fun fact: Williams' role in this film—which despite its less than impressive specs is easily the highest rated of his career--became part of his stand-up act.
Norbit (2007)
IMDB user rating: 3.7
Tomatometer score: 9
Katt Williams character name: Lord Have Mercy
Fun fact: Many pundits believe this ill-conceived “comedy” ruined Eddie Murphy’s chances of winning an Oscar for Dreamgirls.
First Sunday (2008)
IMDB user rating: 3.4
Tomatometer score: 14
Katt Williams character name: Rickey
Fun fact: One of the few films for which Williams has received top billing, it also reteamed him with Friday After Next co-star Ice Cube.
The Perfect Holiday (2007)
IMDB user rating: 3.1
Tomatometer score: 17
Katt Williams character name: Delicious
Fun fact: Richard Roeper quipped of this film, “I’d rather watch 90 minutes of a flickering yule log video than sit through this overcooked Christmas goose again.” Which kind of makes me want to watch it.
Epic Movie (2007)
IMDB user rating: 2.2
Tomatometer score: 2
Katt Williams character name: Harry Beaver
Fun fact: IMDB users have ranked this spoof movie, which stars Kal Penn, one of the 100 worst films of all-time.
The Verdict: Guilty as charged. The "King of Undergound Comedy" is yet to build a filmography that would do his idols Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy proud.
