Five films in the Atlanta area you won’t want to miss this weekend (and a bonus pick for the week ahead), with preference given to newer releases and one-time screenings

1) Beautiful Losers—Documentary about a group of NYC artists rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, and the impact they had on the art world.
Where you can see it in Atlanta: The Plaza

2) Burn After Reading—Coen brothers follow-up to Oscar-winning No County For Old Men stars Brad Pitt, John Malkovich and George Clooney. The comedy has opened to generally positive reaction from critics and moviegoers.
Where you can see it in Atlanta: Landmark Midtown Art Cinema, Lefont Sandy Springs, AMC Phipps Plaza 14, and others.

3) Tambourine—Iranian comedy that takes a look at the farcical interactions between neighbors in an upscale Tehran condo. Variety calls it "a whirligig comedy . . . carrying hints of the ensemble-shuffling of Robert Altman, the snarkiness of Preston Sturges, and the pace of Billy Wilder."
Where you can see it in Atlanta: High Museum (Sept. 26 only)

4) Blowup—Classic Antonioni thriller about a photographer who believes he’s photographed a murder. Nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay Oscars.
Where you can see it in Atlanta: GSU’s Cinefest (Sept. 27 only)

5) Serenity—Cult sci-fi thriller from ’05. Nominated for ’06 Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film.
Where you can see it in Atlanta: The Plaza (Sept. 28 only)

Bonus Weeknight Pick
1) A Foreign Affair—In this 1948 comedy/romance, directed by the great Billy Wilder, an army captain in occupied Berlin is torn between an ex-Nazi cafe singer and the U.S. congresswoman investigating her. Nominated for Oscars in Cinematography and Screenwriting.

Where you can see it in Atlanta: Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta (October 1 only)
