Five films in the Atlanta area you won’t want to miss this weekend, with preference given to newer releases and one-time screenings:

 

1) Used PartsThe High Museum’s annual Latin American Film Festival kicks off this weekend. Saturday night’s entry, Used Parts, is set in Mexico City and centers on 14-year-old Ivan, who finds himself pulled into his uncle Jaime's shady car-parts business. Actor Eduardo Granados will be present to introduce the film and for a Q&A after the screening.

2) Body Of LiesLeonardo DiCaprio stars as CIA operative Roger Ferris, who uncovers a lead on a major terrorist leader suspected to be operating out of Jordan. Russell Crowe co-stars, reteaming for the fourth time with director Ridley Scott (see: Top 10 Ridley Scott films).

3) I Served The King Of England—This Czech comedy/romance takes a bittersweet look at the glamorous life at an old-world Prague hotel. An official selection of the Berlin Film Festival, it won the ’07 Czech Lion for Best Film and Best Director.

4) A Girl Cut In Two—Well-reviewed French black comedy centered around a TV weather girl (Ludivine Sagnier) and the two very different men who pursue her.

5) Yojimbo—1961 Akiro Kurosawa classic starring Toshiro Mifune as the man who comes to a town divided by two criminal gangs and decides to play them against each other. Ranked #119 all-time by IMDB users, it inspired the Sergio Leone/Clint Eastwood spaghetti western A Fistful of Dollars.

Bonus weekday pick!

1) Modern Times—In this Charlie Chaplin classic, the Tramp struggles to adjust to modern industrial society. Ranked #78 on AFI’s most recent list of the 100 greatest American films and #33 on its list of greatest American comedies.
