Kobe Bryant is back, and the chase is on for Lamar Odom and Trevor Ariza.
The Los Angeles Lakers will have to battle numerous teams, but the two most interested in Odom seem to be the Phoenix Suns and the San Antonio Spurs. As for Ariza, he'll be getting a lot more money than the $3.1 million he made last year, and there are only a few teams that can afford him.
But let's not forget about another key contributor to this year's championship run-- Shannon Brown.
Despite having the same name as a female country singer, Brown was the Lakers' most reliable point guard for a good month toward the end of the season and into the playoffs. When Derek Fisher came to life in the Finals and Jordan Farmar created better matchups, Brown lost his minutes-- but not for a lack of performance.
The surprise of the year for the Lakers, Brown played great defense and ran a solid point while startling fans with his athletic ability. Heck, he even learned how to make three-pointers.
With Fisher at the end of his rope and the once-heir-apparent Farmar struggling with his confidence, it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to re-sign Brown.
Brown is an unrestricted free agent, but his agent has expressed that he would love to return to L.A. That being said, if somebody comes up with a huge offer for him, I'm guessing he'll take his ring and say "thank you very much" as he gets on the plane.
Brown is definitely being forgotten in the whole free agent sweepstakes. So next time we talk about how the Lakers have to sign Ariza and Odom, how about throwing a little love towards Shannon Brown?
He could provide the stability at point guard that the Lakers sorely need.
