The Los Angeles Lakers and the NBA draft have a good history together. While the Lakers aren't usually in the lottery, when they are they seem to make pretty solid picks.
Their last lottery pick, Andrew Bynum, has become a reliable starter while their last first-round pick, Jordan Farmar, has been a solid contributor off the bench.
Unfortunately for us, however, this year's draft doesn't hold quite as much excitement. Since the Lakers had the second-best record in the NBA, they get the second-to-last pick in the first round.
As Kurt from Forum Blue & Gold kindly pointed out, the Lakers will probably not have room on their roster for another player and therefore will most likely select a European player that they can leave overseas for a year or two.
For me, that player has to be none other than the Swedish Sensation himself, Jonas Jerebko. For those of you not familiar with Scandanavian linguistics, that's pronounced YO-nas YER-eb-ko.
He's 6-9, long and lean, and would be the first Swede to be taken in the first round of the NBA draft.
He's been compared to Thabo Sefolosha, but reminds me of Matt Harpring in terms of his build and haircut. Since most of you have no idea who this guy is, please allow himself to introduce...himself:
Is it just me, or does he have a little urban slang going on there? Maybe it's just the Swedish dialect, but he sounds like he has some swagger.
Browse around the other videos on him and you'll see that he has a pretty good jump shot and he can definitely dunkar with the best of them.
The pick would make sense for the Lakers if he's still around at 29. Besides, think of the Swedish fanbase they would gain by drafting Jerebko. We're pretty sure at least one Swede is already excited about the possibility:
