Kobe Bryant is averaging 34.5 points per game this season, but if you watched the games you'd never know it.
The Los Angeles Lakers' superstar has scored exactly 41 points in three of his last four games, all Laker wins. Over those games he's made it look easy, shooting 52% from the field.
Ron Artest, who had his most complete game of the year in Friday's win over the Memphis Grizzlies, was asked about Kobe's performance after the game. Here's what he had to say:
It's easy. Really I don't know he's scoring that much. They say he had 40 [points] the last three out of four games? And I didn't even know. He's doing it within the team.
Tonight [Friday vs. Memphis] was the best because we weren't forcing the ball to him. And he worked for the ball. He didn't just demand it and hog the ball. We went away, he continued to work for the ball and we gave it to him and he scored. It was totally out of the offense.
Sometimes he gotta do what he gotta do. He has to be the greatest sometimes. Tonight was great because he was able to get it within the team concept.
High praise from Artest, who is used to defending Kobe for other teams. One thing's for sure, Kobe's finding it much easier to score against the likes of OJ Mayo.
Kobe won't have to continue this level of scoring once Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum return (possibly Sunday), but if he can maintain this level of efficiency the Lakers are going to be extremely difficult to beat.
