Things couldn't have gone much better for the Los Angeles Lakers in the first six minutes Tuesday night. They looked bigger, stronger, and better than the Oklahoma City Thunder and opened up a big lead to start the game. Funny how that rarely translates into an easy victory.
The Lakers needed overtime, but managed to hang on to beat the Thunder on the road. The Lakers dodged a bullet when Kobe Bryant went for a steal at the end of the game, leaving Thabo Sefolosha wide open for a possible game-tying three, but he missed.
Lamar Odom then showed his clutch ability by missing two free throws (one an airball!) to finish the game. Yikes.
Tonight's game just proves what we already knew: the Lakers aren't going to have many easy games this season.
The Lakers had a relatively easy win over the Atlanta Hawks Sunday, but that was due to a third quarter offensive explosion. After that, the Hawks were able to dwindle the lead down to eight.
But you have to remember, the Lakers are the champs. They're going to get everyone's best effort and it will be rare that any team will have an "off night" mentally against them.
This is the NBA. Even the lower-tier teams like the Thunder have a lot of talent, and there's nothing that young, talented players want more than to beat the best.
The Lakers are going to be tested every night, and they need to expect good games from every single team.
Yes, even the Clippers.
