Sad news this morning as it was revealed that former Los Angeles Lakers center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer last December.
The disease is called chronic myeloid leukemia. Abdul-Jabbar, 62, said that his doctor told him he has a good chance to continue to lead his life without any "drastic changes."
Abdul-Jabbar, never one to be in the spotlight, felt it was time to speak out:
I've never been a person to share my private life. But I can help save lives. It's incumbent on someone like me to talk about this.
Abdul-Jabbar is the NBA's all-time leading scorer, and has most recently been an assistant coach for the Lakers. He is often credited with the continued development of center Andrew Bynum.
