Kobe Bryant's fadeaway jumper rattled in and out on the final play of the game as the Los Angeles Lakers started off the toughest road trip of the season on a sour note Friday night, losing to the Miami Heat, 89-87.
Dwyane Wade refused to let his team lose (35 points) and nobody on the Lakers cared enough to stop him. Did anyone think that Kobe was going to win that jump ball with Wade with just under a minute left and the game on the line?
That epitomizes how much Wade wants it and how apathetic the Lakers are. Perhaps looking towards the Orlando Magic tomorrow night, the Lakers were horrendously sloppy, committing 21 turnovers.
Luckily the Heat played poorly down the stretch to keep the Lakers in the game. Otherwise the game could have been put away with two minutes left.
On the second-to-last possession of the game, Lamar Odom put up two soft floaters that were both rejected (once by Wade, who is 6-4). You wanna talk about soft? Lamar, when the game's on the line, you go to the basket strong and get a foul, ESPECIALLY if you're 6-10. Then again, with Odom's free throw shooting, maybe it was better to take your chances with the ball landing in one of the Lakers' laps.
It landed in the hands of Pau Gasol, who had a chance to tie the game with free throws with nine seconds left but bricked the first. Looks like more military-style drills coming up for the Lakers.
A giant moan rang through the city of Los Angeles when the Lakers lost this one. This was supposed to be a tough game, but not a loss. The possible losses were supposed to be against the Magic and the New Orleans Hornets. Now it looks like even Monday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies isn't a sure thing.
