Tony Romo had the honor of playing golf with Tiger Woods yesterday...and the Dallas Cowboy Quarterback did it with a smile in the heart of enemy territory.
He teed off early yesterday morning with Woods who ironically was attired in a navy blue shirt and gray slacks. Despite being in Redskins Country, the fans treated him fairly well. Many members of the gallery showed their support attired in Cowboys fan gear. Some attendants even twittered their disgust at the lack of Redskins support at the tournament. On the closing hole, one fan yelled "Let's go Redskins" after Romo hit his tee shot...Romo just smile and laughed.
Romo play from the back tees. Woods told reporters that this was the first time he played with an amateur golfer who opted to do this. Romo is a scratch golfer and overall held his own alongside the world's best golfer. He kept pace with Woods and even managed to outdrive him on a few holes. Romo ended his 18 holes with a par putt and the foursome shot a notable eight under.
Tiger was questioned as to why he would choose the Dallas Cowboy Quarterback to play in his tournament. He responded..."For him to come here to D.C., certainly I didn't realize it was gonna be THIS big a deal. He's a big golf nut, and loves to play golf, has tried to qualify for U.S. opens before, and loves to play and understands how to play. I've always wanted to play with him and he accepted our invitation to come out and play, which was awfully nice of him. It's gonna be a fun round, but also an interesting one. He's used to being booed. It is what it is."
Popular Washington sports figures Jason Campbell, Antwaan Randle El, and Bruce Boudreau also played in yesterday's tournament. They played along side Canadian golfer Mike Weir.
Tiger Woods tees off today at 1:02 pm with US Open Champion Lucas Glover and Charley Hoffman.
