Last week, I reported on a frightening bike crash involving a friend of mine. Luckily, her husband was there and able to provide her personal medical information to paramedics. However, had he not been present and she had been knocked unconscious, her insurance information and medical history, including blood type and allergies, might not have been revealed. No matter how insignificant this may seem under normal circumstances, in a medical emergency it can be critical for the health of the injured. This is something to consider if you are a cyclist or an athlete who participates in any long distance sport.
After the accident, I was contacted by Bruce Temesy, CEO of Yikes ID. He was present the day of the accident, passing the scene after the paramedics had arrived, and was checking on the well being of my friend. He asked me if I was familiar with Yikes ID, an innovative, visible identification tag that attaches to your shoe, seat or helmet. This makes his line of identification products unique and unlike his competitor’s IDs, which are worn predominantly as wristbands or necklaces. Once the Yikes ID tag is attached, you never leave home without it.

The company was founded with the help of avid cyclists and runners, who provided significant feedback on what they wanted in an identification tag. Unlike a wristband ID, the Yikes ID seat and helmet tags can’t be forgotten, left at home or removed while participating in a sport.
Yikes ID currently partners with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, providing several local chapter members with visible identification tags and helping them achieve their fund raising goals. In addition, Yikes ID is a proud partner of USA Cycling, the governing body of all US-based licensed racers. Yikes ID offers a 10% discount to racers and donates the additional proceeds to the USA Cycling Foundation to promote cycling in the USA.

Paul Che, Pro-1 Racer for Pista Palace and two time California State Champion, says: "The yikes ID Helmet tag has solved my concern for carrying identification. As a competitive racer, I don't always have time to remember to wear my identification each time I ride. I attached my yikes ID Helmet tag to the helmet's fitting system so it's always there and visible if needed which is comforting to me and my family."
In many of my articles, I’ve encouraged cyclists to wear or carry identification at all times when out riding. It’s the safest way to roll, giving peace of mind to you and your loved ones. The Yikes ID is the ideal product to consider – reliable, easy to attach and is always with you.
