On June 6th and 7th, Heart O' the Mountain winery will be open for the annual Santa Cruz Mountains Vintner's Festival.  This is one of the few opportunites to visit this exlcusive wine estate, it is not open to the public except for special events.

Alfred Hitchcock territory

Bob and Judy Brassfield’s winery and vineyard property holds a story rich enough to come right out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie. In fact, Hitchcock himself lived there with his wife Alma from 1940 until 1975. Hitchcock loved wine and served it to his famous guests, including Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Cary Grant and Kim Novak.

Estate history

The name of Heart O’ the Mountain was given to the original parcel on the 1,490 foot high mountain in 1881 by the wife of owner Pierre Cornwall. In the early 1900’s, Cornwall’s son Bruce added some nearby parcels of land and continued the vineyard started by his father.

The Brassfields purchased the land in 1978 when they saw what a serene and peaceful place it was. The vines had been let go, but in 2002 Pinot Noir grapes were planted on 3½ acres by father and son team Bob and Brandon. The premium grape growing estate vineyard, at 1100 feet in elevation, enjoys views of the Monterey Bay. Brandon, who now serves as winemaker, says that eventual production of the estate wine will reach 1000 cases.
