Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced the release date for the awesomely ridiculous follow up to Crank, Crank 2: High Voltage, starring Jason Statham and Amy Smart. The DVD and Blu-ray versions of the film will be released on September 8, 2009.
There is definitely a niche for brainless action movies and both Crank movies fill that niche shamelessly. I know that may sound like a negative thing, but there is a place for these movies today; afterall, movies are supposed to be entertaining. Whoever said that everything put to film has to be artsy, political, preachy, social commentary... or hell, even have a plausable plot? I for one sometimes need to just go to a movie to see some cool fight scenes, big explosions, and mindless violence. Is this for everyone? Certainly not, but I would imagine the audience the Crank movies are geared towards are the only ones going to see them... and enjoying them thoroughly.
Picking up right where the original Crank left off, Chelios is now tracking down some pesky Chinese mobsters who have stolen his heart and replaced it with a battery-powered mechanical one that needs periodical jolts of electricity to keep on a-tickin' (in the truthful words of the tagline: "He was dead... but he got better"). Revisiting many of the same concepts and gimmicks of the original, Crank 2: High Voltage will surely not disappoint all the cult-fans. There is enough absurdity, laughs, nudity, and fast-paced logic defying action to keep even the pickiest of action film fanatics entertained.
If you plan to pick up the single-disc DVD of Crank 2: High Voltage the only special feature included is the theatrical trailer. If you buy the two-dics DVD or the Blu-ray editions you will get a few more special features:
