When it comes to teens and some of the bizarre behavior they engage in the question that most often comes to mind is “Why.” In reality the question that should be foremost in their minds and ours as parents is “What now?” Teens are going to do dumb things – they’re teens. And experience teaches us that the “hindsight is 20/20 vision” theory is more of a looking back lesson as opposed to going forward solution. Teens need to understand how to address the problem or situation at hand. And by doing so, can navigate through the many humps and bumps they will encounter along the path of life.

As soon as they comprehend the “what now” concept and take responsibility for their actions, they will demonstrate a more definitive understanding on how consequences are an important part of the equation when making decisions.
