Every month Bishop Paul Loverde leads the faithful in a Mass dedicated to the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death. Mass is followed by a Rosary prayed outside one of the local abortion facilities. This Saturday, November 7, the monthly Mass for Life will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale. The Rosary will be in front of the abortion facility at 10400 Eaton Place in Fairfax. These monthly prayers are very powerful. The international 40-Days for LIfe campaign has just ended. This coordinated effort of prayer at abortion facilities around the world has confirmed that the lives of 2000 children along with the lives of their mothers have been spared the tragedy of abortion.

The pro-life prayers include more than prayers for pregnant women and their unborn children. There are always prayers for the conversion of those involved in the abortion industry. This week Abby Johnson, the former director of the Planned Parenthood abortion center in Bryan, Texas announced that she resigned from her position last month because of a spiritual conversion. She had worked for this Planned Parenthood center for eight years, the last two as the director. She was already having doubts about her work because the corporate leaders of Planned Parenthood were pushing her to focus more on abortion and less on prevention services because abortion was more profitable.  After watching the ultrasound of an abortion procedure she realized she could no longer be part of the destruction of unborn lives. She now participates with the local Coalition for Life organization in prayer vigils outside the facility she once led. Planned Parenthood has released a statement indicating are seeking a temporary restraining order against Ms. Johnson. The exact nature of the restraining order is unclear. They are not seeking to bar either Ms. Johnson or the Coalition for Life from praying outside their facility. Their statement only says that they are forced to turn to the courts because Planned Parenthood would be "irreparably harmed by the disclosure of certain information."

For those who are unable to be present at the monthly Respect Life Mass and Rosary, pro-life private prayers at home are certainly welcome. In addition, there are many crisis pregnancy centers and crisis pregnancy support programs that could use financial support. Both the Diocese of Arlington and the Archdiocese of Washington offer Gabriel Project support to women in a crisis pregnancy. In addition, Project Rachel provides healing support to women who are suffering from the spiritual and psychological effects of an abortion.
