Lincoln High School hoops star Lance Stephenson is facing sexual assault charges after a 17-year-old classmate claimed he groped her inside the Brooklyn school earlier this month.
Stephenson, a two-time NYC player of the year and three-time city champion, is currently ranked the No. 7 high school player in the country by ESPN and is the subject of his own online reality documentary site called BornReady.TV.
Police were called to the school earlier this month after the alleged victim told authorities Stephenson groped her breasts and buttocks over her clothing on Oct. 3, and she kicked and punched him in response. Three days later she reported the incident and Stephenson was arrested on the Class B misdemeanor offense.
Through his lawyer, Alberto Ebanks, Stephenson has denied all the charges. “He categorically denies these charges,” said Ebanks, pointing out that while police claim all the commotion started inside the school Lincoln officials contend it was at a nearby bus stop. “Where's the proof?,” he added.
Lincoln is the same high school that has produced NBA players Stephon Marbury and Sebastian Telfair. Stephenson, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard, is viewed as the latest big-time prospect produced by the Coney Island program.
Stephenson recently attended a Midnight Madness event at St. John's Taffner Fieldhouse where he was greeted by former Knicks star Anthony Mason and smiled broadly as a crowd of students chanted his name. He is also being recruited by USC, Memphis, North Carolina, Kansas and Indiana.
Lincoln officials contend they have not decided if any disciplinary action will be taken against Stephenson. The girl is now said to be undergoing counseling.
