Since the World Health Organization declaration of Stage 5 world epidemic for the H1N1 swine flu, Los Angeles residents have been contemplating precautious measures. One of the top 10 forums of the nation, TOWN HALL Los Angeles, which is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group obtaining its funding through Los Angeles businesses, foundations and residents, has taken the H1N1 Swine flu matter into their hands through public forums, which will include a panel of experts.
The H1N1 Influenza A stands for hemagglutinin (H), N stands for neuraminidase, 1 stands for their antibody type, and Influenza A stands for the genus of the Orthomyxoviridae family of viruses. The H1N1 swine flu is the first flu in over 40 years to be labeled a pandemic. During the TOWN HALL Los Angeles the panel of experts will discuss preventative methods for businesses, hospitals, and schools.
The TOWN HALL event being held on Wednesday September 23 at the National Center for Preservation of Democracy will include a panel of economic and medical experts, such as Dr. Robert Kim-Farley, who possesses both a MD and MPH, and is Director of Communicable Disease Control and Prevention Los Angeles County Public Health; Jeanne S. Ringel, PhD, who is the Senior Economist at RAND Corporation; and Dr. Stanley Shapiro, who is Co-Chair Regional Flu Task Force, Kaiser Permanente Southern California, Infectious Diseases Physician, Hospital Epidemiologist for Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center.
