On Tuesday November 3rd, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa finally selected the new Los Angeles Police Department Chief who will replace former Police Chief William Bratton. Mayor Villaraigosa had a difficult decision to make since he had to choose one Police Chief out of three extremely qualified candidates. After much thought Mayor Villaraigosa has chosen a 32-year LAPD veteran Deputy Police Chief Charlie Beck over Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell and Deputy Chief Michael Moore.
Deputy Police Chief Charles Beck must still be approved by the Los Angeles City Council. So far there has been no opposition to Charles Beck’s appointment to Police Chief. The City Council President Eric Garcetti strongly supports Mayor Villaraigosa’s selection of Charles Beck. In the next few weeks the City Council will vote on Beck’s appointment.
