http://tcpalm.com/news/2008/dec/05/whale-shark-spotted-jupiter-video/ Whale Sharks are an immense, but mostly docile shark, found in warm waters. It is the largest of any shark species, growing up to 40 feet long. They are filter feeders, eating plankton and krill and other tiny marine organisms – hence they pose little threat to man.
Sadly, man poses a threat to them. They are still targeted by commercial fisheries, although Taiwan, India, and the Philippines have banned their harvest. They have “Red List” (intermediate) status on the World Conservation list. They are vulnerable to overfishing because they tend to aggregate in predictable areas for spawning, and little is known about their migratory patterns or overall population health.
