Brian Doyle will appear at the Hoffman Center Annex in Manzanita at 7 pm on Saturday, September 19, as part of the Manzanita Writers' Series. The Portland author will read excerpts from his book entitled The Grail: A Year Ambling and Shambling through an Oregon Vineyard in Pursuit of the Best Pinot Noir Wine in the Whole Wide World.
Brian Doyle is the editor of Portland magazine, the award-winning publication from the University of Portland. Previous books include The Wet Engine (Paraclete Press) and five collections of essays. His work has also appeared in Atlantic Monthly, Harper's, American Scholar, Orion, and in the Best American Essays anthologies of 1998, 1999, 2003, and 2005.
Doyle is a native of New York, a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, and has been a magazine and newspaper journalist for more than 20 years. He and his family now live in the Portland area.
This event takes place at the Hoffman Center Annex at 594 Laneda Avenue, right across from the Manzanita Library. The Annex will be set up in a cafe' style with coffee/tea and snacks available. A $5 donation is suggested to help cover event expenses. And for those who would like to indulge in a glass of Pinot Noir in honor of the occasion, wine sales will be handled by Vino.
Everyone who plans to attend should come prepared to have a good time! Like his book, The Grail (trade, Oregon State University Press), the evening promises to be "fun, headlong, sprinting, entertaining, anecdotal, amusing, and conversational."
