The holidays are fast approaching.  This year, how about a festive sampling of crime fiction for all the mystery fans on your shopping list?  The Gift of Murder, "a wonderfully entertaining anthology of winter holiday crime and mystery stories," would make a great stocking stuffer.

But wait!  That's not all!  Because for every copy sold, Wolfmont Press will make a donation to the Toys for Tots Foundation.  That's like getting two gifts for the price of one.

Tony Barton, head of Wolfmont Press, has published three collections of short crime fiction with holiday themes since 2006.  The Gift of Murder is his fourth.  And each year, he has donated all net proceeds from the sale of these anthologies to Toys for Tots.  Since starting this holiday tradition, that has meant a "gift" of over $6600 to this very worthy cause.

"And our goal with The Gift of Murder," says Barton, "is to push our total for the four years up over $10,000."

This year's anthology is edited by prolific short story writer John M. Floyd.  Inside, readers will find 19 fantastic stories of winter holiday crime from some very talented and generous authors, including Vancouver's own Carolyn J. Rose.

Carolyn is the author of several mystery novels, some written with co-author and husband Mike Nettleton.  In recent years, she helped teach a Novel Writing Bootcamp at Clark College in Vancouver.  She is one of the founders of Vancouver Writers Mixer and is also a member of the Harriet Vane Chapter of Sisters-in-Crime.

"I was thrilled to learn that I'd been chosen as one of 19 authors (and the only one from the Northwest) whose short stories are included in The Gift of Murder," she says.

Carolyn is quick to point out that none of the authors involved with The Gift of Murder are being paid for their efforts.  To increase the profit margin, so that even more money can be contributed to the kids, all stories were "donated".

"I get only the joy of seeing my story, Yule Be Sorry, in print," Carolyn says, but she doesn't mind.  "It's more fun, especially with the holidays coming up, to be involved with an organization that does a lot of good for so many children."

And now, here's your chance to help out!  This holiday season, please consider giving The Gift of Murder.  Not only will you provide a "cozy" afternoon's reading enjoyment to a very grateful mystery fan, you'll also help brighten the holiday of a child.  And isn't that what the holidays are all about?

The Gift of Murder is now available for purchase at bookstores throughout the Portland/Vancouver area or can be ordered direct from the publisher.
