Call me a happy little socialist. Not only is our new president delivering on the promise of change in multiple areas, he seems to have an ear for real music.
The White House hosted a jazz mini-summit on Monday, with reeds player Paquito D'Rivera, trumpeter/composer/Grand Poobah Wynton Marsalis and others playing a brief concert and holding workshops showing young players the finer points of jazz technique. First lady Michelle Obama opined that “there is no better example of democracy than a jazz ensemble.” (Tell that to former Miles Davis employees.)
Given that the tastes of the mansion's previous occupant seemed to peak with the Knack's "My Sharona," I call that major progress.
